Job Crafting allows Employees to Own Their Work
Employees today want to have purpose to their work. They’re looking for a calling and not just a job. Retaining top talent is the key to any successful business and retention keeps talent acquisition expenses to a minimum. One way to retain talent is to help your employees feel that their work is meaningful and valued.
According to the non-profit, Engage for Success, people enjoy and value having their own personal style, beliefs and passions reflected in what they do and how they do it. Job crafting allows employees to personalize some aspects of their work in a way that fosters engagement and job satisfaction.

To make changes and begin to craft your own position, consider these tips:
1. Evaluate the tasks that you do every day and brainstorm how you can use your skills to bring about better results. Be creative and think about your strengths and how you can use them in your position.
2. Consider who you come into contact with on a daily basis, and how you could bring about a more satisfying interaction. Offer to be a mentor to someone or join in on a project that is interesting. Take an interest in someone else’s work and recognize their passion for their work.
3. Think about how your duties help someone else. Recognize the true impact of your work and think about your contribution to this impact. Remember the goals you have set for your position and reflect on the accomplishments that you have made towards those goals.
Make sure to speak with your supervisor and provide them with the changes you would like to make. Show them the advantages of your changes and how they will improve your overall job performance. Ensure that the changes are a win-win improvement for both yourself and the employer.
Once you make sure that all parties involved are on board with the changes, you can begin making your new changes and truly own your position.
